Message from the Principal

Reported by 204-enews@ipsd.org on 12/4/19

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE WAS SENT TO PARENTS ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2019:

Dear Metea Valley Parents,

I want to let you know that today we found a second message left in a bathroom making a threat against our school. We immediately contacted the Aurora Police so they could investigate. While Aurora Police detectives found no evidence of a credible threat against our school, our district and law enforcement officials take threats seriously. An arrest was made in relation to Monday’s incident and we anticipate similar legal consequences will occur for today’s incident as well. The safety of our students is always our top priority. We understand that due to these two incidents, parents and students may have a heightened sensed of concern this week. As a result, the Aurora Police will have an increased presence on campus for the remainder of the week.

I’m asking you to please talk with your children about the seriousness of making threats or sharing threats on social media and encourage them to always report suspicious activity to a trusted adult. We thank the students who came forward this week to share this information. We appreciate the work of the Aurora Police Department in keeping our school safe. Thank you for your continued support.
