ArtSpeaks Presents: Hear Your Voice
ARTSpeaks is sponsoring an event on November 6th. Vijay Gupta, renowned violinist and MacArthur Genius Award Recipient and Reena Esmail, prominent composer and Kennedy Center Citizen Artist will perform the world premiere of Esmail's Concerto for Violin with the Neuqua Valley Symphonic Strings. Gupta and Esmail will also engage the audience in a conversation about their transformational journeys, challenging each of us to hear our own voice and courageously express it.
As part of a week long residency, Vijay Gupta and Reena Esmail will be working with students from Fry Elementary, Neuqua Valley High School, Waubonsie Valley High School, and Metea Valley High School throughout the week.
We know this message will resonate with our youth because we saw how they responded when Vijay was here last year. It can be difficult for students to hear their own voice when they are living in such a noisy world filled with demands for achievement and hitting the numbers. Art, music, drama and dance demand that youth be fully present whether they are creating or experiencing it. It forces them to turn off the noise around them so they can focus on who they are and who they want to be.
Each person has a unique voice – literally and figuratively. Music and art can
provide an opportunity to discover who you are and give your distinctive voice a
means for expression if you embrace it.
The community event is 7pm, November 6, 2019 at Wentz Hall at North Central College.
I’ve attached the flyer for the event and hope that you will distribute it widely.
